Alice Prin: "Kiki de Montparnasse", "Queen of Montparnasse"

A great lingerie store lays in NYC's Soho district. Kiki de Montparnasse. Chalk full of gold vibrators, whips, chains, Helmut Newtan prints, and lots and lots of silk lingerie. But what is even more interesting is the history behind the name "Kiki de Montparnasse".

Born, Alice Prin, nick named "Queen of Monparnasse or Kiki de Montparnasse. Kiki was a French artist, model, nightclub singer, actress, memoirist, and painter in the 1920s. She was a fixture and a symbol of the bohemian Montparnasse social scene. Posing for dozens of artists including Julian Mandel, Chaim Soutine, Mayo, and Tono Salazar. Great friends with Man Ray, he made hundreds of his most well know images of her. A pure muse and symbol of a bohemian and creative Paris, she was declared Queen of Monparnasse.  Maintaining a positive attitude she is quoted saying "all I neeed is an onion, a bit of bread and a bottle of red wine, and I will always find somebody to offer me that."

To this day Prin is still remembered as the definition of the forward thinking, vibrant, and creative Parisian Montparnasse scene.  Julei Martin has called here "one of the century's first truly independent women"
